[kwlug-disc] Ghosted?

I did not have a great experience working with third party recruiters.
Most of the time they are looking to get your resume and other information,
and store it in their library of potential candidates.
You may periodically get contacted if they have a role they're trying to
fill. Most of the time they're contract based, or low value, and you have
to waste your time filtering out the ones that aren't a good fit.
I also got ghosted by a few where they just stopped replying to me, after I
followed up with them on a potential opportunity I was actually interested
in. Ended up just being a waste of time.
I won't even give a recruiter my resume or any info unless there is
actually a company and job posting that would be of interest.
Lots of scammers out there trying to collect personal information through
this route.
Plus there are other scams where they'll "hire you", have you buy all your
equipment with your own money through their portal, and send you a cheque
to cover the amount.
Then the cheque bounces because it was fake, and you're stuck with your
credit card bills for stuff you "purchased" that never shows up, and they
just disappear.
Be safe.
