For me, it just wasn't worth it.

I consolidated all those harddisks into one big BTRFS backup.  I spin 
them up only for backup.  Yes, it's electrically connected, so no 
protection against lightning or fire.  I used to do backup to external 
USB boxes with harddisks.  Now, I have the disks internally.  One less 
device to manage.

Same for multiple partitions.  I never had just a partition die on me. 
It's always the whole disk.  So, I'm now using only 2 partitions: 
/boot/efi and /.  In the BTRFS backup, I'm using the whole disk, no 
partitions.
