Alsamixer says:
Card: HDA Intel PCH
Chipset: Alderlake-P HDMI
Item: S/PDIF

The controls show S/PDIF, and SPDIF-1 to S/PDIF-3
All of them with 00, and no way to increase anything.

No capture devices.

It had happen to me on occasion it doesn't detect properly if the output

I rebooted, and everything is the same.
But I found out something odd, and promising ...

When I do

$ sudo aplay -l

The devices show up ...

  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 1: HID [USB Audio and HID], device 0: USB Audio [USB Audio]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0

So it seems like a group thing.

Will investigate further.
