Two family members were in the same situation as you.
Basically Fido is ending 3G and require customers to get a 5G phone.
What we ended up doing is ask Fido for a free phone.
And we did get them, but the caveat is we must stay with Fido for 2 years.
If you are happy with your current Fido's, I would recommend researching
this option.
The phone is a Motorola Edge 2024.
Everything about it is great, including a mostly plain vanilla Android.
Exceptions are:
1. It does not have a 3.5mm socket (most phones now lack that anyway), and
you can get a USB-C to 3.5mm adapter for very little money (but the phone
case may interfere with it).
2. It does not have an SD card, but comes with a generous 256GB of storage.
