What kind of modern franchise store uses cash registers?  (certainly not
Canada Computers.). And their payment terminals are connected to the
computer Point of Sale.

Though the POS is itself not web based, and we'll probably never know if
the same attackers who were able to compromise the website (for a whole
year) were also able to infiltrate other internal systems. I don't think
it matters. You should always operate under the assumption that your
credit card number can leak at any time and be used fraudulently.
