Yes, that is the most likely reason, if there is no one in the house
(electric oven, electric clothes
dryer, kettle, ...etc).

And that is one reason to have an indoor sensor that logs the temperature
and humidity.
You can go back and see what the temperature was.
And if you have a home automation system that integrates with the
thermostat, you can
see when it was on and such.
